Jane Goodall
Jane Goodall
Pretty of face, fair of form,
An English rose in a far off place
Close to nature far from home
To save the chimps and then the world.
She infused her work with empathy
Animals had names not just numbers
Living, breathing, feeling, loving
As much as me or you.
She opened the gates and set them free
From factory farms and total hell
Lives of stress don’t taste better
But poison one and all.
She simply said what the world was thinking
In caring for the least we care for all
In saving them we save ourselves
We’re saved from blindness and from greed.
But more than this, much more
She gave the youth a way to hope
A path to redeem and repair
The battered world now their care.
Hope was not a luxury
Hope was not an option
Hope was a call to action
To save both home and nation.
Jane called for courage
Her message to the young
This is your world, now save it
Just try and see you can.
